Renewing your CNBAM membership

It is now time to renew your membership/or join as a new member online with our new member/member renewal online registration. After completing the renewal information, users will be given the option of paying by check or credit card. If the check method is selected, simply print out the information sheet and mail it and the check to the listed address. If the credit card option is used, users will be directed to a secure page where all of the credit card information is completed. You can then print a copy of the transaction for your records and a receipt will be emailed to you.

Call out for information exchange material

The last day of the annual CNBAM convention, you can typically find a horde of peopling milling around tables filled with material from other schools. It’s time to get your best sales materials and special papers ready to ship out for Saturday’s always-popular information exchange. This is your chance to pick up examples of the great work produced at member newspapers and to show off your great work, too.

Your boxes will need to arrive at the hotel no earlier than March 18. All boxes to the hotel must be labeled as follows:

The Houstonian joins ranks of CNBAM members

The Houstonian, a 4,000-circulation broadsheet semi-weekly student newspaper for Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas is the newest member of the CNBAM family. The publications serves campus of 17,000 students just about an hour north of Houston. Tammie Nokes serves as its business manager.

Time to make final preparations for L.A. Convention

The 2010 CNBAM Convention in Los Angeles is nearly upon us and while some of us — those who are tired of the snow and cold — are already packed, here are a few things for those not quite prepared for the trip to keep in mind: The forecast is sunny and 70 for the time we’re there!

Here are some more practical items to keep in mind:

HOTEL
Our convention hotel is the Hilton Universal City. There are still rooms available at this time.

ARRIVAL
Once you hit the airport, you’re only a short shuttle ride to the hotel. Don’t forget to print your coupon if you’re taking Super Shuttle to the Hilton.

Primetime Shuttle: Approximately $20 each way to/from Burbank airport or LAX. Enter your flight info online to get an exact rate quote.

Super Shuttle: They created a link for the CNBAM convention with a $2 off coupon which brings the rate down to $10 per person from BUR airport and $18 from LAX.

WHAT TO BRING, WHAT TO WEAR
Business casual is appropriate for sessions. If you are interviewing at the convention, a suit is recommended to go with your resume. Bring cocktail attire for Saturday’s Awards dinner. Most importantly, bring lots of business cards!

Deadlines extended for L.A. Convention by one week

With half of us snowed in, snowed out and generally done in by the weather this past week, it’s time for a little ray of sunshine. Or in this case, a big ray! The registration deadline for the Los Angeles Convention has been extended to February 24. That’s one extra week to get your staff registered and hotel booked. And yes, you can still get the special rate at the Hilton Universal City, host of the convention, that is being exclusively offered to CNBAM members.

But don’t wait. Register for the convention or reserve a hotel room, today. Get more information about the convention by clicking on the following links to learn more about the sessions, keynote speakers, new advisors and digital sales workshops and the round-table discussions. And return to CNBAM.org or watch the CNBAM listserv for more information as more sessions, sponsors and activities are confirmed.

Oh, and by the way, the average high temperature in late March for Los Angeles is in the low 70s. See you March 24-28 in California!

Roundtable sessions announced

One of the many highlights for the annual CNBAM convention are the round-table sessions that allow for small, intimate discussions with your peers. Usually, the group consists of eight or fewer people, giving everyone plenty of time to ask questions and learn from each other.

This year at the L.A. Convention, there will be two round-table sessions, each broken into three sections giving you the opportunity of hitting six different subjects that will give you plenty of new ideas when you head back to campus.

Many of you have been asking for a schedule and, though the finishing touches are being put on it and some speakers are finalizing their topics, here is a list of topics that will be covered plus some of the schedule.
