About the Distinguished Service Award

JoAnn Daughtee Distinguished Service Award

The JoAnn Daughtee Distinguished Service Award was created to “periodically honor those long-time members of College Newspaper Business & Advertising Managers whose dedication, commitment and sacrifice have contributed to the betterment and value of student media programs of both the campus and nation.”

JoAnn Daughtee was the Advertising Director of Student Publications at the University of Texas-Arlington. She was instrumental in the development of CNBAM during its first decade, serving on the Board for many years as Adviser and Executive Secretary/Treasurer.

In 1997 at CNBAM’s 25th anniversary in Chicago, a Distinguished Service Award was created and presented for the first time. JoAnn died later that year, and the award was renamed in her memory the following year.

Intended to honor only those who have made a significant impact, the standards are high. The criteria include having contributed to college advertising/business education for 10 or more years while an active member of CNBAM. Recipients also will have served as role models and mentors for both students and colleagues and consistently been trendsetters in standards of excellence and achievement by which other advisers can measure their contributions and achievements.
